Vipers Climb Ladder

Valley Vipers have taken over sole possession of fifth place in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Vipers edged the hometown Bathurst Bears 101-96 Saturday night at the K.C. Irving Centre. The narrow win gives the Vipers a 3-7 and the Bears dropped to 2-9.

Frank Agyemang led the Vipers with 22 points while Anthony Ottley had 21 and Tre Brewer threw in 14.

Brian Williams answered with 24 points for the Bears while Stanley Mayambo had 17 and OJ Watson netted 16.

Each team pulled down 41 rebounds.

League play resumes on Sunday, when the Vipers visit the Saint John Union (8-6) at 2 p.m. at TD Station.

At the same time, the first-place Truro Tide (11-1) host the Bears at Cobequid Education Centre and the Moncton Motion (4-6) visit the Charlottetown Power at Eastlink Centre.
