Union Launches Quick Strike

A late-game rally on the road has pushed the Saint John Union into sole possession of second place in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Union trailed for most of the game, but they regrouped and to beat the Valley Vipers 116-110 Wednesday night at Horton High School in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

The Union trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half before they put on a shooting clinic to secure the win.

The victory gives Saint John a 7-5 record and the Vipers dropped to 2-7.

Mike Rodriquez led the Union with 41 points, including 12 three-pointers – seven in the second half.

Salim Wyche added 24 points and Chevon Brown had 20.

Anthony Ottley countered with 23 points for the Vipers while Tre Brewer poured in 21 and JoBriel Powell had 18.

The Vipers led 57-53 at the half.

League play resumes on Friday, when the first-place Truro Tide (10-1) host the Moncton Motion (4-5) at 7 p.m. at CobequidEducation Centre.

At the same time, the Union visit the Charlottetown Power (6-5) at the Eastlink Centre.
