Union Deliver in Overtime

Despite a short bench because of injuries, the Saint John Union connected with some clutch shots in overtime for an intense victory.

The Union, with just eight players, edged the Moncton Motion 124-120 in an exciting Eastern Canadian Basketball League game Monday night before 900 spectators at the Avenir Centre.

The win gives the Union a 6-5 record and sole possession of third place while the Motion dropped to 4-5.

The teams were tied 109-109 after four quarters then Salim Whyche hit a three-pointer and Kyler Haynes dropped in two consecutive free throws to pace the Union in overtime. Haynes and Mike Rodriquez each scored 32 points for the Union while London Hoxie added 19, including five treys.

Robbie Robinson replied with 36 points for the Motion while Doug Thomas netted 20 and Janiel Jenkins had 16.

Moncton led 54-53 at halftime.

League play resumes on Thursday, when the Union visit the Valley Vipers (2-6).
