Tide Work Overtime for Win

A late-game outburst carried the Truro Tide to the first overtime win of the season in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Tide rallied from a 14-point deficit with some clutch shooting and a smothering defense to tie the game at 97-96 and force overtime before earning a 108-106 victory Sunday afternoon at Cobequid Education Centre in Truro.

The win gives the first-place Tide a 10-1 record and the Power dropped to 6-5.

Former Saint Mary’s Huskies guard Oyemah Gibson led the Tide with 35 points. Garric Young delivered 19 points and O’Savion Buckner added 17. Adam Stanford replied with 23 points for the Power. Jordan Holness and Marcellus Taliafeero each had 17.

Truro led 53-50 at halftime.

League play continues Monday, when the Moncton Motion (4-4) host the Saint John Union (5-5). Game time is 7 p.m. at the Avenir Centre.
