Eight and Counting

The Truro Tide faced their toughest test yet, but still managed to extend their season-opening winning streak.

The Tide edged the visiting Moncton Motion 104-97 in an intense new Eastern Canadian Basketball League game before 525 spectators Friday night at the Cobequid Education Centre. The Tide had a 20-point lead in the third quarter, but the Motion narrowed the gap to just three in the final minute.

The Tide, who led 57-45 at the half, ran their record to 8-0 and the Motion dropped to 3-3. 

Tyler Scott paced the Tide with 24 points while Garric Young dropped in 18 and DeQuon Cascart had 17. Robbie Robinson replied with 19 points for the Motion while Doug Thomas had 18 and Mark McLaughlin contributed 12.

The Saint John Union (4-3) host the Valley Vipers (1-4) on Sunday at 2 p.m. at TD Station. The Motion visit the Bathurst Bears (0-6) on Sunday at 4 p.m. at K.C. Irving Centre.
