Axeman Knocks Down Threes

Guard, Alex Muise, was in familiar territory, and he led the Valley Vipers to their first home win in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Acadia Axemen product connected on a trio of three-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead the Valley to a 105-101 victory before 254 spectators at the Stu Aberdeen Centre on the Acadia campus in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The win gives the Vipers a 2-5 record and the Motion dropped to 4-4.

Muise, a six-foot-four shooting guard from Halifax, poured in 24 points for the Valley. Tre Brewer netted 22 points while JoBriel Powell and Damon Garret each had 20.

Mark McLaughlin countered with 25 points for the Motion while Robbie Robinson had 23 and Emmanuel Ndatuje added 15. Moncton led 49-48 at halftime and the teams were tied at 76 after three quarters.

The Vipers host Bathurst Bears (1-8) tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Motion return to action on Monday, when they entertain the Saint John Union (5-5) at 7 p.m. at the Avenir Centre. Charlottetown Power (5-4) hosts the Truro Tide (9-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre. They clash again Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cobequid Education Centre in Truro.
