Motion Wins One for the Road

Moncton Motion’s defense was steadfast and they went home with their first road win of the season.

The Motion beat the hometown Bathurst Bears 104-86 in a new Eastern Canadian Basketball League game Sunday before 1,021 spectators at the K.C. Irving Centre.

The win, which featured a 13-0 run late in the first quarter,  gives Moncton a 4-3 record, including a 1-2 mark on the road. Bathurst dropped to 0-7.

Robbie Robinson led the Motion with 21 points while Jeff Montenegro threw in 18 and Emmanuel Ndatuje added 14. Stanley Mayambo countered with 21 points for the Bears, who started strong, but trailed 50-39 at halftime. Andrew Ferguson added 18 points and Brian Williams had 13.

League play resumes Monday, when the Saint John Union (5-3) visit the Bears. Game time is 7 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Centre.

The Valley Vipers (1-5) host the Bears on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Stu Aberdeen Centre on the campus of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. At the same time, the Saint John Union (5-3) visits the first-place Truro Tide (8-0) at the Cobequid Education Centre. The Motion returns to action on Friday night in the Valley.
