Vipers Coming Home
Brittany Traynor is grateful for the patience of basketball fans in the Annapolis Valley. Traynor is the diligent Manager of Business and Basketball Operations of the Valley Vipers, the last team in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League to host a home game.
“There’s a lot of talk in the community and we’re expecting a huge crowd for the first game at home,” Traynor says. “People have been waiting for this moment for a long time,” she adds. “We are proud to have a pro team in the Valley, and we’re ready to support it.”
The early season has featured practices at several school gyms and some late player arrivals. The team’s floor, which was supposed to be installed at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick, Nova Scotia, arrived with some infrastructure issues and home games were postponed. After all that, the Vipers are ready to play in front of their home games. They will host the first-place Truro Tide (6-0) on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Stu Aberdeen Centre on the campus of Acadia University in Wolfville. Tickets are available at the Acadia box office and through the Vipers’ Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Traynor expects a sellout crowd of 1,000 to attend the home-opener at Acadia.
“The basketball community has been waiting for this, and we appreciate their understanding in some challenging times,” Traynor says. “I know the team wants to play in front of a home crowd,” she continues. “The fans are ready and the players are ready so we’re looking forward to the historic first game. “I think we’re going to have a very successful team that everyone can be proud of for a long time.”
