Helping Hands

David Tingley knows there will be two teams that will make the Moncton Motion successful during the first season of the Eastern Canadian Basketball League. Tingley, the Motion’s confident Manager of Business and Basketball Operations, believes Head Coach Todd McKillop will lead a winning team on the floor. Tingley is also certain the Motion will have an outstanding team of volunteers to support the efforts of the players.

“We’ve had a lot of people register for volunteer positions on the league’s website and a lot of people have been in direct contact with me,” he says “It’s all part of the way we are moving forward – people in the Moncton area want this team to be a success.”

Moncton, Saint John Union, Bathurst Bears, Charlottetown Power, Summerside Slam, Truro Tide and Valley Vipers will begin play in late March. Rosters are currently being constructed and the first player announcements are coming in early February.

Anyone interested in volunteering with their hometown team has been asked to register on the league’s website at ecbl.com and the home page has a link to “opportunities.” Teams will assemble lists then be in contact with the applicants during the next few weeks.

“We are going to look at everyone’s strengths and try to place them in positions where they will be able to help the Motion,” Tingley notes.

Saint John Union head coach Rob Spon said volunteers are the backbone of every team.

“You need good stats people that know what assists are, watch and follow the game for the rebounds, scores and not get caught just watching the game and missing important stats,” Spon says. “Stats are very important to the league, coaches and players,” he adds. “You need a good announcer that gets the fans excited and you especially need a good group of volunteers.”
