Bear Market in Bathurst

Paul Theriault is eager to share some North Shore hospitality. Theriault is Manager of Business and Basketball Operations with the Bathurst Bears of the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League, and he’s proud of his community.

“We know the players who come here are going to be extremely well-received and treated like family,” Theriault says. “They will, in return, tell everyone about how they have been treated by the people of the Chaleur region and northern New Brunswick,” he adds. “People from all over Canada and the United States are going to learn about what we have to offer.”

The Bears, Moncton Motion, Saint John Union, Charlottetown Power, Summerside Slam, Truro Tide and Valley Vipers will compete in the new league. Regular season games begin in late March.

Theriault wants the Bears to become more than just a team for Bathurst. He wants North Shore residents, including ones from Miramichi, Chaleur, Restigouche and the Acadian Peninsula, to support the team.

“A lot of people don’t know what this team can do for the entire region,” he explains. “We want to give back to our communities and we want to be a professional team that young kids will look up to. We want our young players to dream of becoming a Bathurst Bear.”

Theriault, a former manager of recreation and tourism with the City of Bathurst, and some volunteers are working to sell corporate sponsorships for the upcoming season. They’ve made appeals through the Chaleur Chamber of Commerce and some direct contact. Anyone interested should contact him at paul.theriault@ecbl.ca.

Papa Johns

In 1984, Papa Johns Pizza started in the small town of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and its popularity has spread all the way to Atlantic Canada. Today, Papa Johns boasts over 3,600 restaurants and can be found in more than 35 international markets outside of the USA. In Atlantic Canada, we opened our first Papa Johns franchise in Moncton, operating under the name of PJ Atlantic Restaurants Ltd. in 2009.

This was the first of many Papa Johns restaurants to be opening over the next few years to serve the Maritime provinces. We now have a dozen restaurants in the following areas:
