Gail-force

Gail MacDonald has never backed down from a challenge, and her latest one is all about bringing fun times to Charlottetown. MacDonald, a life-long volunteer with several Prince Edward Island organizations, is the Manager of Business and Basketball Operations with the Charlottetown Power of the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

“I’m so excited about having professional basketball back in Charlottetown,” MacDonald says. “I’m talking to the basketball community and they’re excited because they know our young players will have professionals to have as role models in the community,” she adds.

Charlottetown, Moncton Motion, Saint John Union, Bathurst Bears, Truro Tide, Valley Vipers and the Summerside Slam will begin play in the league’s inaugural season in late March. League rosters are currently being constructed and the first player signings are expected to be announced in early February.

MacDonald says the Power’s business operations are gearing up and she expects ticket and sponsorship information to be released soon.

“We just loved having professional basketball here in the past and a lot of people really missed it,” notes MacDonald, who was a “super volunteer” with the former Island Storm of the National Basketball League of Canada. “We have to educate people and tell them we have a new league and we’re dedicated to helping our Maritime communities through basketball."

MacDonald has a long history of fund-raising and event planning with the Canadian Cancer Society, including work with the Relay for Life and its annual Daffodil Campaign. She also serves on the board of directors of the P.E.I. Horse Owners Association and is the track photographer with Charlottetown Driving Park.

“I hope there are ways we can promote basketball and harness racing together…I am sure we will come up with something,” MacDonald says.

Papa Johns

In 1984, Papa Johns Pizza started in the small town of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and its popularity has spread all the way to Atlantic Canada. Today, Papa Johns boasts over 3,600 restaurants and can be found in more than 35 international markets outside of the USA. In Atlantic Canada, we opened our first Papa Johns franchise in Moncton, operating under the name of PJ Atlantic Restaurants Ltd. in 2009.

This was the first of many Papa Johns restaurants to be opening over the next few years to serve the Maritime provinces. We now have a dozen restaurants in the following areas:
