Vipers Rally for First Win

The Valley Vipers shook off some rust Sunday afternoon and earned their first victory in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Vipers, who trailed 17-1 just six minutes into the game before 400 spectators at the Eastlink Centre, rallied to beat the hometown Charlottetown Power 115-109. Playing their first game in 17 days, the Vipers managed to take a 55-53 lead at halftime.

The win gives the Vipers, who have yet to play a home game because of infrastructure problems with their floor, a 1-1 record. The Power dropped to 2-3.

Alex Muise led the Vipers with 23 points while Anthony Ottley dropped in 25 and Tre Brewer added 21. Zach Hinton netted 38 points for the Power. Adam Stanford had 29 points and Dakelle Brooks had 23.

League play resumes on Friday night, when the Vipers visit the Saint John Union (3-2) at TD Station and the Moncton Motion (1-1) host the first-place Truro Tide (5-0) at the Avenir Centre.

The Motion and Power clash on Saturday night in Moncton. At the same time, the Vipers will host the Bathurst Bears (0-5) in the Valley’s home-opener in Berwick, Nova Scotia.
