Union Notch Home Win

Saint John Union have captured sole possession of second place in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Union defeated the Valley Vipers 112-98 Friday night before 1,033 spectators at TD Station in Saint John. The victory gives the Union a 4-2 record and the Vipers slipped to 1-2 heading into their home-opener on Sunday afternoon.

Shooting guard led the Union with 28 points while Kyle Arsenault connected for 24 and Kyler Haynes added 23. Damon Garrett paced the Vipers with 27 points while Anthony Ottley netted 19 and Tre Brewer had 18.

The Union led 50-48 at halftime. League play resumes tonight, when the Moncton Motion (1-2) host the Charlottetown Power (2-3). Game time is 7 p.m. at the Avenir Centre. The first-place Truro Tide (6-0) visit the Vipers on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Stu Aberdeen Centre on the campus of Acadia University.
