Union Survives Scare
Saint John Union built a big lead in the third quarter then had to hang on for their third win of the season.
The Union let a 20-point advantage slip away before hanging on for a dramatic 97-96 win over Charlottetown Power in an Eastern Canadian Basketball League game Sunday before 1,001 spectators at TD Station in Saint John.
The victory gives the Union a 3-1 record and the Power are 1-1.
Chevon Brown led the Union with 31 points. London Hoxie poured in 28 points and Mikey Rodriquez added nine for the Union, who led 54-43 at the half. Adam Stanford replied with 36 points for the Power while Zack Hinton had 19 and KV Myricks tallied 18.
League play resumes on Thursday night, when the Truro Tide (3-0) visit the Bathurst Bears (0-4). Game time is 7 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Centre. The Union and Power clash in a rematch on Friday night in Charlottetown. The Power also host the Tide on Saturday and the Valley Vipers (0-1) on Sunday.
