Tide at the Four Front

The Truro Tide show no signs of ebbing in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League. The Tide defeated the Bathurst Bears 119-100 before 1,350 spectators Thursday night at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre for their fourth straight victory to begin the season.

The Bears, who trailed 59-51 at halftime, fell to 0-5.

The Tide connected on 48 per cent (14-for-29) of their three points attempts and out rebounded the Bears 50-37. Armon Benford led the Tide with 19 points while Qyemah Gibson added 18 and Dequan Cascart netted 16. OJ Watson paced the Bears with 29 points while Brandon Jamar and Brian Williams each had 14.

League play resumes Friday night, when the Saint John Union (3-1) visit the Charlottetown Power (1-1), Game time is 7 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre. The Power and Tide clash on Saturday night in Charlottetown and the Power host the Valley Vipers (0-1) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Moncton Motion (1-1) have had to reschedule some games in order to accommodate the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Moncton Wildcats and their playoff schedule at the Avenir Centre.

The Motion will host the Tide on Friday, April 21, the Power on Saturday, April 22 and the Vipers on Thursday, April 27. The Motion will also entertain the Union on May 8.
