Motion Knock Down Dramatic Win
Moncton Motion guard Mark McLaughlin was a hometown hero in his adopted hometown. McLaughlin, a Nova Scotia native who now lives in Moncton, nailed a three-pointer from the corner with just 5.4 seconds remaining to give the Motion a stirring 98-97 win over the Charlottetown Power Saturday night before 1,200 spectators at the Avenir Centre.
The win gives the Motion a 2-2 record in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League and the Power slipped to 2-4. The Power had one chance to win the game after McLaughlin’s dramatic trey, but their final shot rattled off the rim.
Robbie Robinson led the Motion with 42 points, including a three-pointer from mid-court at the halftime buzzer. Jeff Montenegro netted 14 points and Emmanuel Ndatje added 12.
Zach Hinton answered with 37 points for the Power whole Adam Stanford had 20 and KV Myricks 13.
League play resumes Sunday, when the Valley Vipers host their home-opener against the first-place Truro Tide. Game time is 4 p.m. at the Stu Aberdeen Centre on the campus of Acadia University.
The Tide enter the game with a 6-0 record and the Vipers are 1-2.
