Motion Capture Opener

Moncton Motion won their opening game in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Motion nailed some clutch shots down the stretch and beat the visiting Bathurst Bears 90-84 Thursday night before about 2,000 spectators at the Avenir Centre.

Veteran Robbie Robinson led the Motion with 21 points while Janiel Jenkins had 17 and Jeff Montenegro added 14.

OJ Watson poured in 19 points for the Bears, who trailed 50-48 at halftime. Stanley Mayambo and Tim Mitchell each chipped in with 16.

The Bears (0-3) visit the Truro Tide (2-0) on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Cobequid Education Centre. The Motion travel to Charlottetown to tip off against the Power on Saturday night. The game will be the first of the season for the Power. The Power and Union (1-1) will meet Sunday afternoon in Saint John.
