Valley Lands Coach

Eastern Canadian Basketball League owner Ravi Verma calls Eric Perry “a coaching guru” and one of the sport’s brightest young minds.

“He has a goal to win, to impact players and the community in a positive way,” Verma says. “He’ll get the experience he needs in our league and he’ll continue to make a name for himself in the coaching world,” he notes.

Perry, a 34 year-old native of Los Angeles who calls Phoenix home, has been hired as the first head coach of the ECBL’s Valley Vipers.

“I can hardly wait to get there and meet the people of the area,” Perry says. “I want people there to know that our players will work hard for them and we’re going to make our community proud.”

Perry is a graduate of Crossroads College (formerly known as Minnesota Bible College, an NCCAA Division II school in Rochester, Minn. When his playing career ended, Perry knew immediately that he wanted to pursue a coaching career so he took an assistant’s job at Crossroads.

“I like the challenge of trying to improve every day and that’s how my career has gone – I’ve learned a lot along the way,” the coach says.

He’s coached all over the world, including stops in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand as well as colleges in the United States. Perry recently served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Cal Poly and assisted with the off-season training development of NBA stars such as Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade, Rajon Rondo and Jaylen Brown.

He has a clear message for players who will be suiting up for the Vipers.

“Always work hard and always respect the game,” Perry says. “No one player or coach is bigger than the game so always respect it. “If you treat the game with respect, it will respect you back. Opportunities will always come to those who respect it.”

Training camp begins in mid-March.
