Half-Time Means Full-Time Fun

The new Eastern Canadian Basketball League is looking forward to showing off the high-level talent on its six teams as well young players who represent the future of the game. League President, Tim Kendrick, says half-time presentations during regular season games will feature minor basketball players. Youth and high school teams – both boys and girls – will be asked to apply for permission to participate in half-time shows in Moncton, Saint John, Bathurst, Truro, the Valley and Charlottetown.

Regular season games begin at the end of March. Each team will play 13 home games.

“When teams are selected, they can choose to play a scrimmage game on the pro floor or they can show off their skills in a series of drills,” Kendrick explains. “You just imagine how exciting that will be for those young players,” he adds. “Playing on the same floor as the pros, in front of their families and their friends, is going to create memories they will have for a very long time.”

Clubs that are chosen will also participate as rebounders during the home team’s pre-game warmup. Each team will also turn over the proceeds from their 50-50 draws to youth basketball organizations.

“We are anticipating a big response to this program,” Kendrick says. “It’s all part of our league’s commitment to our communities. This is bigger than basketball. It’s about helping us grow the sport in the Maritimes and working closely with grassroots organizations. Our games are going to be exciting, and we’re going to carry that excitement into half-time.”
