Giving Back to Basketball

Lonnie States has worked with Tim Kendrick for several years and the pair have teamed up again to raise the profile of basketball and assist community-based organizations.

States, who has coached alongside Kendrick and the University of Prince Edward Island, Holland College and the Island Storm of the National Basketball League of Canada, is the Community Relations Manager of the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League. States works for residential services and child protection for the P.E.I. government.

He’s also coached at several Island high schools and served as head coach of the Windsor Edge in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association last season.

Kendrick, meanwhile, is the Eastern Canadian League’s first president.

“The game of basketball has given me so much that I want to give something back,” says States, a father of three and grandfather of three from Charlottetown. “Tim and I each believe the game builds character,” he adds. “We will only be bringing in players with solid character so we can work with kids in the Maritimes.”

The schedule is being written and will be released in mid to late January. Games will tip-off in March.

“Lonnie’s always-positive approach with players and support staff has been exemplary, and his willingness to do whatever is necessary to help our program succeed is immeasurable,” Kendrick says.

Papa Johns

In 1984, Papa Johns Pizza started in the small town of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and its popularity has spread all the way to Atlantic Canada. Today, Papa Johns boasts over 3,600 restaurants and can be found in more than 35 international markets outside of the USA. In Atlantic Canada, we opened our first Papa Johns franchise in Moncton, operating under the name of PJ Atlantic Restaurants Ltd. in 2009.

This was the first of many Papa Johns restaurants to be opening over the next few years to serve the Maritime provinces. We now have a dozen restaurants in the following areas:
