Bathurst Bears Head Coach Serge Langis can’t stop beaming as he reviews the team’s roster as it prepares for the inaugural season of the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League. Langis likes the mix of proven veterans and younger players, who are just establishing themselves as professionals.

“These veterans are leaders and the rookies come from great basketball backgrounds,” the coach notes.“We’ve got pretty good size and some quickness, too. It’s a solid lineup all of the way through.”

The Bears open their regular season on Friday night (March 31), when they visit the Saint John Union. Game time is 7 p.m. at TD Station. The teams square off again on April 2 in Bathurst. Game time is 4 p.m. at K.C. Irving, but the team is asking fans to arrive around 2:30 p.m. because of all the celebrations and activities planned for the day.

“It’s incredible when you think of all the support we’re getting in Bathurst and all of northern New Brunswick,” Langis says. “Our guys will appreciate it because it’s going to be a tough place for opposing teams to play.”
