Bear Essentials

Corporate support is essential for the Bathurst Bears during their inaugural season in the Eastern Canadian Basketball League. Paul Theriault, the team’s Manager of Business and Basketball Operations, has been encouraged by the level of corporate support during his on-going canvassing campaign.

Pharmasave Bathurst, owned by Kelsey and Andreas Pohle for seven years, was the first business to purchase a sponsorship in support of the Bears. Pharmacist Drew McNeill says the Bears are creating an invigorating stir in Bathurst, the largest city on New Brunswick’s North Shore.

“It’s exciting to think we’re going to have a professional basketball team here,” McNeill says. “People in Bathurst and the Chaleur region have always loved sports and we’ve supported our teams, but this is new level that we’ve never seen before.”

He says basketball is popular at Bathurst High School and Ecole secondaire Nepisiguit.

“There are other people who will be learning a lot about basketball,” McNeill says. “It should be a lot of fun to grow together as players and fans. He said the region has always been known as a hockey hot bed, but he can sense excitement growing for the Bears. “We know how to support our teams. Now, it’s time to be supportive of our basketball team.”

Season tickets are available at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, where home games will be played. The league will announce its first player signings on February 1.
