Second Wind; Second Win

Bathurst Bears regained their composure and picked up their second win of the season in the new Eastern Canadian Basketball League.

The Bears let a 13-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter before they settled down defensively and defeated the Valley Vipers 90-80 Saturday night at the Stu Aberdeen Centre on the campus Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The hard-fought win gives the Bears a 2-8 record and the Vipers dropped to 2-6.

Brian Williams led the Bears with 24 points while Stanley Mayambo added 16 and Gio Jackson delivered 12.

Anthony Ottley paced the Vipers with 25 points while Tre Brewer and JoBriel Power each had 14.

League play resumes tomorrow, when the Truro Tide (9-1) host the Charlottetown Power (6-4). Game time is 2 p.m. at Cobequid Education Centre. Moncton Motion (4-4) hosts the Saint John Union (5-4) on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Avenir Centre.
